Midway: The village of Midway actually began
as a compromise. When the Ute Indians began raiding settlements
in the mid 1860s, Mormon leaders suggested those living along
Snake Creek band together for protection. Previously residents
of other communities had moved to Heber for protection.
But neither of the two Snake Creek villages
wanted to move to the other, so they both moved to a point "midway" in
between the two and built a fort.
By the 1880s the area was being settled by more and more
Swiss settlers, including some who favored the area because
the mountins reminded them of the Swiss Alps. Others came
as the result of missionaries returning from Switzerland
and bringing friends and converts with them.
Today, much of that Swiss heritage remains in Midway, making
it Utah's slice of Switzerland. Swiss architectural details
may be found in most of the city's residences and commercial
establishments and the annual Swiss Days celebration each
September attracts more than 80,000 people from around the
West.
Midway is also home to The Homestead Resort,
one of the West's premier golf desitnations, and Wasatch
Mountain State Park. Also located in Midway is Swiss Oaks
Resort and Zermatt Resort. Just outside the part boundaries
is the Midway Shortline Railroad, a miniature steam engine
that offers rides to children on weekends during the summer
months.
The city has approximately 1,700 residents and is incorporated.
City water and sewer are available and there is a small commercial
district.

and other water sports. Wasatch Mountain and Soldier Hollow
state parks are exceptional for golf during warm weather
and cross-country skiing and other snow sports during winter.
The Homestead, Daniels Summit and Deer Crest
resorts are located here, along with lodges, motels and bed
and breakfast inns ranging in style from luxurious to economical.
Wasatch County serves as a gateway to the Park
